Cariati, Michelle - Registered Psychotherapist, MA, RP
Transformation Counselling
Private practice (individual)
Michelle is a Registered Psychotherapist and a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, as well as a member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals. She holds a Master’s degree in Psychotherapy and Spiritual Care (Wilfrid Laurier University), as well as an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Social Development Studies (University of Waterloo). During her student internship, Michelle worked predominantly with post-secondary students facing challenges with academics, relationships, boundaries, life transitions, navigating cultural differences, anxiety and depression, as well as intimate partner violence. She also worked as a clinical therapist at an inpatient addiction treatment centre following her graduation, where she provided a safe and supportive environment to individuals struggling with addictions and co-existing mental health diagnoses, as well as childhood trauma, grief, physical health challenges, dysfunctional family dynamics, and maintaining a work/life balance.

Michelle’s goal as a therapist is to support her clients in navigating the challenges they are facing, and to walk alongside them on their journey of healing and growth. Through her own personal experiences, Michelle has a special interest in helping people who struggle with a new or existing chronic health diagnosis, as well as their family members. Michelle is also passionate about helping students to set goals and to tap into their greatest potential, and she has volunteered at the University of Waterloo as an alumni peer-mentor to support students facing various challenges.

Michelle brings warmth and positivity to her work, and she provides a safe, non-judgmental space for her clients. Her approach to therapy is collaborative, client-centred and strengths-based, and she uses a trauma-informed lens. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys reading, watching movies, playing music, singing, bike riding, and taking walks in nature, as well as baking new recipes for her family and friends.
